QotD: Weekend Wrap-Up
What did you do this weekend?
Saturday: slept in (thanks Kay), ate breakfast alone over that day's Tour De France recording. Went to a local soapbox derby thing (Saturday was Derby Days in Yamhill, Turkeyrama in McMinnville, and Da Vinci Days in Corvallis -- every weekend each Oregon town throws something as an excuse to get people outdoors). It was like a fair so I ate accordingly, pounding down my first real pork hot dog in ages and some nachos with cheese that came from a pump. The hawaiian shave ice line was too long.
Went out to mexican food that night, and stopped by the video store for the first time in a month. There was nothing good in the new releases (aside from Chappelle's Block Party, which ruled) so I went up to the TV section and decided it was finally time for us to open the wormhole that is Joss Whedon and rent Buffy Season 1. I've never seen an episode but everyone I know gushes about it, so I decided it was time we jump into the seven seasons of Buffy. The guy that worked at the video store was a super nerd and asked me how much I enjoy Whedon's work. I told him it was my first dip into the buffy pool and he seemed pleased. We watched two episodes late that night. Oh, I did 16 miles on my bike before the sun went down.
Sunday Kay tilled the backyard again to kill new weeds that popped up, then we headed to home depot so I could build another drip system. Also finished another garden path, so all we have to do to complete the basics of the backyard is bring in tons of soil, throw gravel on the paths and bark on the soil as mulch, and we can start planting (the drip system will cover all the plants' watering needs. I'd say we're about 40% done with the backyard project and can probably close in on 75% by the end of summer and complete all the soft landscaping. The serious construction of the house-adjacent deck, pergola, and dining area cover will probably happen in the fall to finish the job.
Comments
Buffy Season 1 is good to get acquainted with the characters, but Season 2 and 3 is where it really gets cracking. Lucky you, to have seven series ahead of you (if you get hooked).
After you've finished Buffy, you can break your heart on Firefly.
yep, I was about to say what Caroline did - if you start to feel like Buffy season one isn't right for you, just wait till season 2. The storyline gets better and better, IMO! :)
Sounds like a nice weekend. Something so nice about doing manual labor after a week of clicking buttons. I did a big yard project this summer as well - making a grass and play area for the toddler. Whedon's Firefly is some of the best and apparently under-appreciated network television EVAR. It is so good and over so soon and well, while Serenity helped the browncoats feed their saddened soul, it really is sad that it all ended so quickly.
